Kashgar market - K2 North Ridge 1990 expedition

My book on the 1990 expedition to the North Ridge of K2 includes the wonderful experience of the old markets in the Silk Road capital of Kashgar in China's Xinjiang province which I believe have largely disappeared with the modernisation of the city. I'll post a few pictures over the next few days.

Beta reading

 I spent a few days reading two novels from writers on Goodreads who wanted beta readers to give them feedback.  What a great experience. Two writers with enormous potential.  One a completed sci-fi/alternate future novel that needs a few tweeks. I thought it would be a struggle but it held me to the end with excellent writing and a plot that kept twisting.  The other was the first few chapters of a crime/thriller that has the potential to be a huge seller. Terrific crisp writing, a setup that draws you in wanting more.  I think I'll do some more beta reading. One or two a month. A good way to keep me on my toes, seeing how good other unpublished writers can be.

  Much of the Kashgar market in 1990 was almost medieval - people making tools and utensils on small anvils and lathes, and this man bending thin strips of wood over a purpose-made brazier to create steaming baskets or sieves.
